A guardian nomination form is the legal document that names a permanent guardian of your children should the need arise. This is the person or people who would be responsible for your kids’ physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. You can (and should) name someone to take care of financial matters through a Will or a Trust.

For example, if you and your spouse are in a car accident, the temporary guardian would immediately be called to go to your home and be with your children until the permanent guardian, who may live out of state, can be appointed as legal guardian and be present.

A guardian nomination, when legally documented, stands in the background, ready to be used if and when something happens that results in you not being available for your child.
